GENERAL BAR & RESTAURANT FAQs

Opening Hours & Bookings

What are your opening hours?
We’re open 7 days a week from 11am–late.

How do I book a table?
You can book online via our website, give us a call, or flick us an email.
Walk-ins are always welcome.

Do you accept walk-ins?
Absolutely. If we’re packed during peak season, there may be a short wait — but we’ll always do our best to look after you.

Can I make a last-minute booking?
Yes — subject to availability. During peak times (summer, long weekends), we recommend booking earlier in the day.

How far in advance should I book for large groups?

  • 10+ people: At least 1 week ahead is ideal.

  • 20+ people: Please contact us so we can help plan the space, food, and timing.

  • Running late with the organising? Don’t stress — we’re flexible, and if there’s room, we’ll shuffle things around and make it work.

Is there a waitlist?
Yes — if we’re full, we can pop you on the waitlist and contact you when a table becomes free.

Do you have outdoor seating?
Yes! We have plenty — our beer gardens, and outdoor fire areas are perfect for Coast sunshine.

Can I book the Brewery Room or private areas?
Yes — we have dedicated spaces for private groups, meetings, birthdays, and functions. Minimum spends may apply depending on season.

FOOD & MENU

Do you have vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free options?
Yes — we offer a wide range of dietary-friendly dishes, all clearly marked on the menu.

Do you cater to allergies?
Yes. Please let a team member know before ordering so our kitchen can prepare your meal safely.

Do you use local ingredients?
Yes — we support West Coast suppliers wherever possible, and we proudly showcase local seafood, produce, and meats.

Is there a kids’ menu?
Yes — we have a dedicated children’s menu.

Can I pre-order meals?
For large groups, tours, buses, or tight schedules, yes — pre-orders help us speed things up.
Just contact us ahead of time.

POLICIES & SERVICES

Are you licensed or BYO?
We are fully licensed — no BYO.

Do you offer takeaway?
Meals are dine-in only, but we’re happy to pack leftovers — and yes, we’ve got takeaway beers too in a range of pack sizes.

Do you have highchairs?
Yes — just ask!

Do you accommodate birthdays or special occasions?
Absolutely. Let us know what you’re celebrating — we love making it special.

Can I bring a cake?
Yes — you’re welcome to bring your own celebration cake.

Can I put up decorations?
Yes — small table decorations are fine. For bigger setups, please check with our team first, and all decorations and rubbish must be taken with you after your celebration.

What payment methods do you accept?
EFTPOS, major credit cards, Apple/Google Pay.
No split bills at the bar during peak periods.

Do you sell gift vouchers?
Yes — available in-venue and online.

DRINKS, BAR & BREWERY

Do you serve cocktails, craft beer, and wine?
Yes — our bar’s fully stocked with cocktails, the full range of Monteith’s beers on tap and in bottle/cans, and plenty of wine to keep the good times flowing! We have plenty of non-alcoholic beers, soft drinks, and mocktails as well.

Do you offer beer tasting trays?
Yes — create your own tasting tray or ask the bar team for recommendations. We serve tasting trays in 3 or 6 samples, perfect for trying a few or going all out!

Do I need to book a tasting tray?
Nope! Just turn up and order on arrival — we’ve got plenty of beers waiting for you.

Do you have live music or events?
Often — especially in summer and holiday periods. Keep an eye on our Instagram, Facebook and website. @Monteithsbrewery1868 and thebrewery.co.nz 

Can I book a table in the bar area?
Yes — subject to availability.

Are minors allowed?
Yes — little ones are more than welcome to join the fun.

Can I run a bar tab?
Yes — pre-authorisation may be required.

What form of IDs do you accept?
Under the NZ Alcohol Act 2012, we only accept NZ driver licences, NZ passports, HANZ 18+ cards, and international passports as ID. Please note that international driver licences are not an accepted form of ID in NZ.

BREWERY TOURS / EXPERIENCE TOUR

Are tours running?
Yes — our Beer Experience Tour runs daily from 4pm. 

How long is the tour?
Approx. 45–60 minutes.

What’s included?

  • A fun, interactive history of Monteith’s

  • Pour-your-own beer

  • A guided beer tasting

  • A takeaway six-pack (choose your own!)

How do I book a tour?
Via our website or by contacting the team directly. 

Do tours run in bad weather?
Yes — the tour is indoors in the original brewhouse.

Can kids join the tour?
Children are more than welcome. 18+ only for beer sampling and takeaway beers.

Can I book a different tour time?

For groups of 15–20 or more, we’re happy to run a private tour — just get in touch and we’ll see what we can make happen!

FUNCTIONS & EVENTS

Do you host functions?
Yes — from birthdays to business events. We have flexible spaces including:

  • The Tasting Room – a private space in the back of the brewery

  • Beertopia – a private room right off the main bar with lower dining tables

  • Beer Gardens

What AV or tech equipment do you have available?
We’ve got you covered — our spaces come equipped with projectors, screens, TVs, microphones, and speakers. Perfect for presentations, quizzes, meetings or a fun photo carousel. Let us know your needs when booking so we can set everything up for you.

Is there a minimum spend?
Yes — minimum spends vary depending on the season and time of day. Please get in touch and we’ll chat through the details.

Do you do set menus or buffets?
Yes — ideal for groups of 20+.
For smaller groups, pre-orders are encouraged to speed things up.

OTHER COMMON QUESTIONS

What’s the dress code?
Absolutely no dress code — just come as you are. The only rule? Keep it decent and non-offensive, and we’re good! (We do reserve the right to refuse entry for safety reasons, e.g., gang patches.)

Is the brewery wheel-chair accessible?
Yes — we have accessible entry, toilets and seating areas.
If you have specific accessibility needs, just let us know.

Is there parking?
Yes — free onsite parking, plus plenty of street spots down the side of Turumaha Street for when it gets busy.

Do you have seasonal menus or specials?
Yes — our chefs create seasonal specials – check with our team members what’s currently available!

Where can I find reviews?

Can I bring my pet?
Only certified service animals are allowed inside. Dogs are welcome outside in our beer gardens, so your furry friends can join the fun!

Do you have Wi-Fi?
Yes — free Wi-Fi is available throughout our venue so you can stay connected while enjoying your drinks.

What’s nearby for visitors?
There’s plenty to see and do on the West Coast! From beaches, scenic drives and nature walks, there’s something for everyone. Ask our crew for the best hidden gems, secret beaches, and must-see West Coast spots — they know all the local tricks!

Can I get cash out?
We don’t offer cash out – the closest spot is the BP Service Station on Tainui Street

THE GREYMOUTH AREA

How do I get to Greymouth from Christchurch?
Around 2.5–4 hours via State Highway 73, depending on traffic and stops.

Is there a taxi service in Greymouth?
Yes — local taxis are available. Ask our team for numbers.

How long does it take to get to the train station?
Greymouth Train Station is about 5–10 minutes from Monteith’s Brewery.

Is there a Post Shop in Greymouth?
Yes — the post office in Paper Plus on Mackay Street.

Is there a bank in Greymouth?
Yes — several banking facilities and ATMs are available in town, including Westpac, ANZ, and BNZ.

Where is the closest EV charging station?
There are a few around town — ask our team for the nearest available spot when you arrive.

What else is there to do on the West Coast?
Beaches, scenic drives, hiking, historic walks, kayaking, wildlife spotting, and plenty of cafes and shops to explore.
